Where Are You, Adam?

By Pastor Teresa Tay

[1]Painting by Giovanni circa 1480Then the man and his wife heard the sound of the Lord God as He was walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and they hid from the Lord God among the trees of the garden.

But the Lord God called to the man, ‘Where are you?

In the Garden of Eden, Adam and Eve enjoyed the closest communion any created being can expect with the Creator. In spite of this they fell into sin and separated themselves from the Holy God.

Nevertheless, God reached out to Adam just like the father in the parable of the Prodigal Son when He called out, ‘Adam, where are you?’

From the moment Adam disobeyed a veil came between God and man. No more would there be the walk and talk in the Garden between God and man. At least not till the coming of God’s Son, Jesus, in the form of a man just like Adam, to restore all that was lost ever since Adam sinned.

Jesus Christ atoned for the sin of mankind by offering Himself as the perfect and acceptable sacrifice.

The veil that separated the Holy of Holies from the rest of the Temple had now been removed restoring the fellowship between God and man.

where are you-1a

Everything that had been lost since Adam had now being reclaimed through Jesus Christ.

When God asked ‘Adam, where are you?’

Adam was hiding because He was afraid.

Thank God for what Jesus had done on the cross we now do not have to hide from God.

We can boldly come before His throne of grace,[2]Genesis 3:22-24 confident of His unfailing love, confident that there is nothing to be ashamed off and confident that His grace is indeed sufficient for us.

Through Jesus Christ we can now gain access to the tree of life[3]Hebrews 4:16 whose fruit gives immortality.

“The first man Adam became a living being”; the last Adam, a life-giving spirit (1 Cor 15:45).
