WA to get world-class Internet connectivity when more than 7500km of fibre optic cable will be laid throughout WA in an ambitious plan for a new internet network that will be 20 to 200 times faster than the existing system. The State Government is seeking a private operator to build, own and operate the infrastructure which will run from Esperance to the Northern Territory border and from Perth to the South Australian border. In return for building the network, the private operator will be guaranteed the State Government’s $100 million telecommunications contract every year for the next 10 years, worth a total of $1 billion.
