Harry was born in the Netherlands and arrived, with his family, in Fremantle by boat in 1952. The family settled in the Armadale area. Harry started a career initially in farming while studying, then moved to building and in 1974 also into suburban newspapers.

Topic: “The Changing Scene of the Media Landscape”

Harry spent a total of 30 years in publishing, first as founder and publisher of the Comment Newspaper group, then as CEO of Community Newspapers, and then, after a 7-year break went back in publishing in 1993 with the launch of WA Business News where he stayed until retiring in 2010.

Since retiring he has completed a degree in Aboriginal studies and in now active as an independent director with an Aboriginal Corporation in the Pilbara. Harry has been married for 52 years, has 6 children, 25 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.
